A Belfast Truss made out of local Larch

Trill on the Hill is a 30 acre patch of wild woodland and meadows, rich in wildlife and overlooking the Jurassic Coast. A place that badgers, owls, bats and a small flock of Gotland sheep call home.  We have been hired to build a barn for that small flock of Gotland sheep.

The Belfast Truss technique was used to create lightweight clear spans for aircraft manufacturing warehouses. The technique uses offcuts from aircraft manufacture in the structure.

We fabricated and tested the barn’s Belfast Trusses at Hooke Park as an educational experience for the students of the Architectural Association.

The barn was raised in spring 2023.
