In the spring of 2022, we reached out to our local Community Shed (a volunteer-run public workshop) to ask if we could run woodworking courses over the weekend. Our goal was to expose and create new forms of access to making, especially with those who are so often excluded from craft and design.  We set out to do this by using locally sourced wood which allowed us to understand the landscapes from where materials come, what goes into producing them, and who has access to these spaces. We call these workshops Local Matters, and we decided to offer our first series to single mothers.
